Ik wil jullie graag laten kennismaken met een cross stitch shop die nog niet zo heel lang bestaat, maar wel een aantal prachtige patronen heeft.
Yiota's Cross Stitch wordt gerund door Yiota en haar man en hun thuisbasis is Groot-Brittannië. Daar maken ze prachtige patronen en pakketten. Ik ben gaan kijken in hun fantasy en fairy aanbod en vond daar The Waiting, een elfin die uit het raam staart. En ik was verkocht...
I'd like to introduce you to a cross stitch shop that is quite new on the internet, but has some very beautiful patterns. Yiota's Cross Stitch is runned by Yiota and her husband. The operate from The UK. There they make beautifull patterns and kits. I went to look in their fantasy and fairy kits and found The Waiting there, an elf lady staring out of the window. And I liked it...
Natuurlijk hebben ze niet alleen fairies en fantasy, maar ook een groot deel Victoriaanse, dieren en andere patronen. Een pakket kost gemiddeld 25£, wat in euro ongeveer zo'n 30€ is. Je kan kiezen voor een pakket met aida of evenweave, wat in de meeste kits bij andere designers moeilijk of niet kan, dan zit je daar met een stuk aida terwijl je eigenlijk veel liever op evenweave borduurt. (Ik vervang meestal de aidastof in pakketten door evenweave) De pakketten met evenweave kosten iets meer, maar niet zo heel veel meer.
Offcourse fairies and fantasy aren't the only things to choose from. They also have a large part of fantasy, animals and other patterns. In their range you can also find Victorian, animal patterns and a whole lot of other things to choose from. A kit costs aprox 25£, in € it's around 30. You can choose between aida or evenweave, which is very nice, cause in most kits from other designers you find the basic aida fabric and if you rather stitch on evenweave like me you have quite some aida in stock. (Most of the times I switch the aida for evenweave of my own.) You pay a bit more for a kit with evenweave, but it's not like it's much more.

Dit is dus de kit die ik gekozen heb. Het ziet er een beetje herfstig uit, mijn favoriete seizoen.
So this is the kit I have chosen. It looks a bit autumnlike, which is my favourite season.
De verzending gebeurde heel snel en met het lange weekend bijgerekend (maandag was een feestdag) kwam het toch heel snel aan. Het pakket zat in een verstevigde envelop waar niet plooien opstaat. Dat is eens wat anders dan de bubbel enveloppen waar de meeste pakketten die ik koop inzitten, gegarandeerd een patroon met kreuken. Hier dus niet. De kits zitten dan nog eens verpakt in een plastic hoesje waar alles in zit.
The shipment happened very fast and it was delivered fast aswell, considering the bankholiday we had here and when no mail gets delivered. The kit was in a sturdy envelop with please do not bend on it. That's a whole difference with the bubbly enveloppes I'm used to, guaranteed to have a pattern with a lot of creasing. Not this time. After you open the enveloppe, you find your kit in a plastic sleeve.
Binnenin vind je je pakket met een voorblad, de gekozen stof met naald, de patroonbladen en bobbins met je garen voorgesorteerd op. De bobbins kleven op een soort van plakblad en ik was bang dat ik de draad zou beschadigen als ik de bobbins er zou af halen, maar het ging bijna vanzelf. Voor mij zijn de voorgesorteerde garens op bobbins iets helemaal nieuws, meestal zitten de strengen garen op van die kaartjes met geperforeerde gaten en is het onderaan 1 warboel om alles weer uit elkaar te krijgen. Hier niet, dus neem je kopje thee/koffie als je het pakket open doet en je kan er meteen aan beginnen.
Inside you find your pattern with a front, the chosen fabric with a needle, the pattern leaves and bobbins with your threads presorted. The bobbins are on somesort of sticky paper and I was scared I would damage the thread if I would peel them off, but I went like nothing. For me presorted threads on bobbins are something totally new, most off the time you get your threads on punched thick paper and even though they are seperated, it's one big mess. Not here, so grab a cup of tea or coffee when you open the kit and start stitching.
Bovendien staat op elk kaartje de kleur gedrukt en het aantal meter op het klosje. (dus niet de totaal aantal meters als je meerdere klosje van 1 kleur hebt) Het garen is van Madeira, maar op het patroon staan ook nog conversies naar DMC garen, omdat je ook enkel en alleen een patroon kan bestellen.Voor mij is het de eerste keer dat ik met garen van Madeira borduur. Ze zijn ook keurig opgerold, dus niet snel-snel. En voor zover ik zie zit er meer dan genoeg garen in, maar dat weet ik pas als gedaan heb met borduren ;-). Bijvoorbeeld voor haar lippen, waar maar een steekje of 10 in het rode kleur inzit, zit er 3 meter garen op het klosje.
On every card is the colour printed and the amount of thread on the bobbin. (so not the total amount needed if you have more then one bobbin from a colour). The thread is from Madeira, but on the pattern you can also see the conversion to DMC threads, because you also buy just the patterns. For me it's the first time to stitch with Madeira threads. The threads on the card are very well winded. And as far as I can see, more then enough thread on the bobbins, but that I can only see when I'm finished ;-). For example for her lips, which only contain like 10 stitches in the redlike thread, is 3m thread provided.
De stof zelf is van Zweigart, dus de kwaliteit hiervan is natuurlijk goed. Ik borduur het liefste op evenweave, dus ik ben heel blij dat ze beide opties (aida 14 count of evenweave 28 count) aanbieden.
The fabric is from Zweigart, which offcourse is excellent quality. I prefer to stitch on evenweave, so I'm very happy they offer both choices. (aida 14 count or evenweave 28 count).
Heb je nog nooit eerder geborduurd of heb je weinig ervaring dan zit er ook een handige uitleg bij hoe je je steken moet maken, hoe ze perfect plat te komen liggen en hoe je op evenweave moet borduren. Maar de meeste onder ons kunnen dat hier zeker al? ;-)
If you have never stitched before of if you don't have a lot of experience you should read the leaflet on how to stitch, make your stitches flat and most importantly, if you have never stitched on evenweave, how to stitch on it. But I guess most off us allready know? ;-)
Natuurlijk kon ik niet wachten om te beginnen, dus is er al een stukje gestart.
Offcourse I couldn't wait, so I allready started a little piece.
Het enige wat mij wat stoort is de grootte van de patroonbladen. Ik ben meestal gewend om in A4 formaat te kopen en dan uit te vergroten op stukken die confettirijk zijn. Hier is dat al wat moeilijker omdat het patroon op A3 formaat is, waardoor ik ook al regelmatiger moet gaan vouwen, maar de symbolen zijn wel groter als normaal getekend.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the size of the pattern leaves. I'm used to work on A4 pages, and then copy and resize the pattern to see it better on the confetti-heavy parts. Here it's a bit harder because the patterns are on A3 format allready, and I have to fold a bit more then usual, but the symbols are a bit bigger then normal.
En het beste van al, ik haat stiksteken en hier is er geen enkele stiksteek in terug te vinden. Hurray!!!
And the best part of all? I hate backstitches, but here I can't find any. Hurray!!!
Dus in het algemeen, dit is echt wel een aanrader.
So on the overal, I would say yes.
